VIDEO OF THE WEEK: Junkerry – As We Are

Contemporary pop artist Junkerry has collaborated with Dior designer Patrick Morgan to form the music video for ‘As We Are’, using Google Tilt visual paint brush. The video has been created 2D but they are hoping to transform the video into the first ever Virtual Reality music video soon.

Junkerry was classically trained in Indian music but has since developed her style, blending multiple genres to create her own unique style. This is shown in the addictive single ‘As We Are’, which is mirrored by the hypnotic music video.

The mysterious Injin and his unique sound

You may not have heard of Injin but his music is definitely something you should give some time to. The combination of machinated synths and natural woodwind instruments on his track, ‘Tennessee’, create an unusual, yet spellbinding sound.

Those who love 80s music should be sure to give it a listen. The vocals are ghostly in their resonating echo, yet enticing. Though for a more modern comparison, the synth lead is not a million miles away from early Future Islands records.

Get on over to Injin’s website should you want to find out a little more about this distinctive and talented musician.

Jolly Mare streams new album ‘MECHANICS’ on Clash

Italian producer Jolly Mare is pleased to finally share his brilliant debut album ‘Mechanics’ on CLASH. Check it out on Soundcloud right HERE.

Help yourself to a complete new album, free to stream!

Fabrizio Martina, the man behind Jolly Mare, is a multi-instrumentalist and champion turntablist, with a master degree in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Vibration Dynamics under his belt. Nicknamed ‘the new face of Italian disco’, he’s currently a full time producer and DJ, taking part in festivals across Europe from Sonar to Harvey’s Discotheque Stage at Bestival. A graduate of Red Bull Music Academy in New York, he has opened acts from Masters at Work to Roy Ayers, worked with the likes of Soul Clap and Thundercat, and has already been featured in the likes of Pitchfork, Mixmag and Okayplayer with his dream-like brand of electro-funk, disco and house.

Jolly Mare’s debut album “Mechanics” was conceived as a conceptual journey through the mechanics of groove and the dynamics of love. Featuring dew-eyed disco jams, Jolly Mare takes you on aural journey through a blackhole of futuristic funk and fresh, twinkling midnight beats – complete with crunchy, choppy bass riffs and plenty of jazzy synth action that’s bound to have you up and dancing. Nowhere is this more evident in album opener ‘Hun’ with its breezy, rolling pulse and ‘Hungry Angry’ with its slow laser descent into an earthy, gritty guitar groove.

Here’s what Jolly Mare has to say about the mechanical concept behind the album:

“Digital years come with misconceptions about rhythm and groove. A ball bouncing on the floor without gravity and friction could go on endlessly. A drum pattern looped into a DAW can be infinitely repeated…forever…generating nothing but alienation to the listener. But once hidden driving forces begin to act, the game comes to life. The ball starts jumping less on every repetition, and drums played by a real drummer transmits something entirely different on every bar and rhythm becomes groove. Same with the relationship between a man and a woman: without romantic entanglements, this can be a sterile, impersonal interaction. It’s love that gives anything meaning.”

‘Mechanics’ is out on 2XLP and digitally 8th April via Bastard Jazz Recordings. Digital copies available.

This year’s headliners are some of the most excellent tribute bands in the scene. Thunderstruck, The ZZtops and Higher on Maiden will be bringing back the days of rock revolution. This is a brilliant way to get to listen to potential stars on the rise and the stadium fillers of tomorrow!

Dr. John’s motto is simple – the DJ wants to promote good quality music and says: “the unsigned scene is possibly the most under-listened aspect of rock music. In many cases it is far superior to the mainstream and more honest. Many of them don’t get anywhere near the airplay and exposure they deserve.” That is why he decided to extend his work at the radio and give emerging artists an additional platform to get heard.

Playing Mars – Burning Desire

The enigmatic duo made up of Jeff Shapiro and Angelique Lihou, aka ‘Playing Mars’ are hitting the high notes with new track ‘Burning Desire’.

The newly formed two-piece are set to release the stunningly eerie brand new track ‘Burning Desire’.

The London-based twosome pride themselves on capturing stimulation from vibes caught out of spontaneity. ‘Burning Desire’ is the product of a jamming session on Angelique’s birthday at 4am in Clapton. Upon investment of their creative expertise, the track oozes drama with a conspiratorial feel, with Jeff’s hypnotic bass line and Angelique’s hauntingly melodious vocals.

‘Burning Desire’, showcases the pair’s musical talents and is an artistic demonstration of their unique creative chemistry. The pair are open to and influenced by every day moments that otherwise pass us by; making their music a captivating expression of what we all often think and feel. The pair are very much genuine music makers, taking inspiration from their surroundings, they even used the sound of Angelique’s spike scraping the floor in ‘Burning Desire’.

The quirky sounds of the duo show some resemblance to that of Goldfrapp, Sigor Ros, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Velvet Underground and Pink Floyd. The song has been remixed by Dan Goodie and Matt Schwarz, offering an energetic new take on the track.
